Even as much as we ask, how DO we hear or see the responses when we are distracted by the noises and activities everywhere in our daily lives and not actively listening or watching? You provide an explanation for her misery after re-capture but the author had a different take: he thought the re-taking of Cynthia Ann was more cruel to her than than the first taking. She was not longing for the fleshpots of Egypt but for her adopted family members and her two sons. She worked so terribly hard as an Indian it is hard for me to see her longing for her former life as the equivalent of a re-born person's longing for his former sinful ways. Adam was the only one to hear this command from God firsthand. By tempting Eve instead of Adam, Satan was attempting to do several things.

1. Adam would have been a harder sell on the idea, since he heard the command from God very clearly. It would have been difficult to convince him that God said something different.

2. Adam was the first one created and he was given dominion over the creation. When Satan lured Eve into temptation she then convinced Adam to do the same. This disrupted the created order.

3. Satan caused Eve to doubt God’s command, and the word of her husband. This also was disruptive to the trust and balance of things.

Just my thoughts. I welcome any other viewpoint!AKA Big Doghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03268933490107556551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7129800563763749945.post-27291267845807498982010-11-09T13:39:42.451-05:002010-11-09T13:39:42.451-05:00Stacy, this post got me to thinking about why Sata...Stacy, this post got me to thinking about why Satan approached Eve rather than Adam. One of the ...Great post Stacy and Awesome analogy. One of the biggest misconceptions today in the church is a lack of understanding of "pistevo" - translated in most Bibles and conversations as to believe or to have faith. It is the most common command & instruction in the Bible, yet “Belief” doesn't just imply that I "know about" something - as this man in Chicago "knew about bus driving, the bus route, etc".. instead (according to Strong's Greek Dictionary) Pistevo means to entrust, to commit (to trust), to rely upon. WOW, We have many folks in our church who “believe” in Jesus, tithe & give money to Christian causes, serve in the church and yet still not know Him, don’t rely upon Him, don’t trust in Him, don’t yield to Him as Lord of their life. As defined above, "To believe" means something far different than acknowledging the existence of, which even Satan does, performing works, or espousing religious words.
A visiting children's pastor recently redefined the traditionally taught ABC's for our kids as Admit, "Back down from what we want and Yield, and lastly Change Course" to follow God's will. Imagine if we, as believers, thought of John 11:25b as "Whoever believes in (yields to, trusts in, relies on, adheres to, changes course to follow) Me, although he may die, yet he shall live" Pistevo is just one example where a word for word translation does not do justice to the true meaning of the passages in the Bible and without careful study of the rich Greek language, God's word has become simplified and our faith has suffered.
As you can tell, I am especially burdened by this as I have a little one whose walk has suffered by mistakenly being taught all she has to do is "believe" and thus she thinks she has been saved by her profession of "belief" in Jesus.. however, her heart has not been changed, she has not trusted in Him, she does not yield to Him and we don't see the fruit in her life as evidence of a life relying on Jesus. I pray daily for all the other children and adults who have suffered for the "simplification" of the Bible and the growth of church numbers... and I pray for my little girl to meet my Savior one day soon! And I pray that the “bus drivers” in our church will be growing and developing strong “believers” & seekers of the Word so that we can all help with the harvest. Miss you & Lynn greatly and praying for your family & eternal family down there in Edgefield.Jaki Glennnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7129800563763749945.post-71566326598488610452010-09-09T15:27:21.870-04:002010-09-09T15:27:21.870-04:00well, Pastor, you've hit it on the head again!...well, Pastor, you've hit it on the head again!!! Sure, he said we should repent of evil, but he also said that God doesn't return evil for evil. In other words, there is no Hell, not according to Jesus.

I've actually written an entire book on this topic--Hell? No! Why You Can Be Certain There's No Such Place As Hell, (for anyone interested, you can get a free ecopy of Did Jesus Believe in Hell?, one of the most compelling chapters in my book at www.thereisnohell.com), but if I may, let me share just one of the many points I make in it to explain why.

If one is willing to look, there's substantial evidence contained in the gospels to show that Jesus opposed the idea of Hell. For example, in Luke 9:51-56, is a story about his great disappointment with his disciples when they actually suggested imploring God to rain FIRE on a village just because they had rejected him. His response: "You don't know what spirit is inspiring this kind of talk!" Presumably, it was NOT the Holy Spirit. He went on, trying to explain how he had come to save, heal and relieve suffering, not be the CAUSE of it.

So it only stands to reason that this same Jesus, who was appalled at the very idea of burning a few people, for a few horrific minutes until they were dead, could never, ever burn BILLIONS of people for an ETERNITY!Rick Lannoyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15771612313060169125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7129800563763749945.post-51275272274538599462010-04-27T14:29:53.517-04:002010-04-27T14:29:53.517-04:00Thanks Stacy for you blog.
